M. J. Holliday has the unusual ability to talk to the dead. But when it comes to a vengeful ghost and a mysterious drowning, this time she may be in over her head….

Kidwella Castle in northern Wales is rumored to be haunted by a deadly ghost—the Grim Widow, who allegedly drowns unsuspecting guests in the castle’s moat. Not long after M. J. and her crew arrive at the castle to film their ghost-hunting cable TV show, Ghoul Getters, two new victims are added to the Widow’s grisly roster.

Fear ripples through the castle, especially when it’s discovered that the victims may have had help into their watery graves from the land of the living. The local inspector suspects father-son serial killers, but M. J. thinks that theory is all wet. To catch the true culprit she will need to dive deep into the castle’s past and bring some long buried secrets to the surface.

My Thoughts:

Usually M.J, Heath, Gilley, Gopher, Meg, Kim and John end up dealing with ghosts that have severe issues but nothing they have done up to this point would have them prepared for what they deal with in this book. Besides Ghost Busting they also are dealing with a serial killer, who seems to be targeting men.

This book had so much suspense and action and one severely ticked off ghost who is out to collect as many souls as possible chaining them to her. When M.J and Heath end up in the hospital M.J. decides that they need to free the souls attached to this evil ghost.

They also end up solving the mysterious murders with the help of Clarence a ghost who was killed by someone other than the ghost.

I love this series going back to see how the gang is doing and watching M.J’s relationship with Heath in this one Gilley gets a love interest how long it lasts is anyone’s guess.

Just as love appears, so does the darkness. With her heart reaching out for one man, Brenna finds herself the target of an unknown stalker. Who is he? What does he want? How far will he go for her? Death is an option. Brenna discovers more than she bargained for and learns that the stalker will kill for her. It all comes down to decisions, and no matter what she chooses it will demand sacrifice and someone’s blood.

My Thoughts:

This was a great thriller/supernatural/romance book. First we have Brenna who is new to the town and has two men fighting over her. One is Eaton a local cop who wants a deeper relationship with Breena and Slaton who feels a deep connection to Breena that she is feeling back. A unknown person also has his eyes on Breena and is set to become powerful with the help of her whether she agrees to or not. What an intriguing books. Had me hooked until I was finished and can’t wait to see how it plays out. What a great book!

Phoebe Pope and the Year of Four by: Nya Jade

The students of Green Lane Academy roam their halls unaware that below their manicured campus exists a prestigious school of an entirely different kind . . .

Sixteen-year-old Phoebe Pope has enrolled at the Campus Below: a spy academy for shape-shifters hidden deep beneath the grounds of a boarding school whose humans unknowingly protect it. There, thanks to a carefully planned schedule, she leads a double life: spy trainee Below and normal teenager Above.

As if two course loads, concealing a secret power she alone wields, and coping with her father’s recent death weren’t enough, Phoebe finds herself developing major feelings for actor and teen heartthrob Colten Chase, who attends the Campus Above and appears to be majoring in winning Phoebe’s heart. But when officials learn that Phoebe may be at the center of a startling prophecy, she becomes the target of shape-shifting assassins who will stop at nothing to suppress the truth.

Now Phoebe’s lessons about Shaper’s enemies and spycraft take on great importance as a menace stalks the campus, with Phoebe as its target. Meanwhile, what began as an unlikely relationship with Colten, quickly morphs into heartache when she suspects that something sinister lurks beneath this movie star’s glitter and fame. Suddenly, Phoebe’s caught in a mesh of lies, betrayals, and danger where she doesn’t know who to trust, and needs to rely on herself—and her secret power—to get to the truth and to stay alive.

My Thoughts:

Phoebe Pope is starting school at the Campus Below where up until recently her application hadn’t been sent in.  With the death of her father she and her grandfather get her enrolled in school so she can do what her father did.  There she meets the Hollywood Actor Colten Chase who seems to be more than he appears and he has eyes for Phoebe.  There are four Hypa’s who are in danger from the Vigo, Phoebe is one of them.

While I was reading this parts of it felt like reading Harry Potter but so much better. Phoebe seems to have so much going on especially with the hottie Colten.  He is mysterious and sends her hearts fluttering.  We also meet her friends Hayley, her roommate Cyn.  Who both know all things about Colten atleast according to the tabloids.  When Phoebe learns about Colten and what he is she keeps his secret.

I enjoyed reading this book it was great on so many levels, with the mystery of certain characters, adventure, romance, and a whole different world existing in our normal world.  Definitely a great up and coming author!

A modern Mary Poppins in space.

In the middle of cosmic danger, the electrifying secret that Tilda Pinkerton, the magical hat maker, hides from the children she teaches – becomes her most miraculous gift, securing the safety of the planet she crashes on.

Somewhere out in the Sombrero Galaxy, Tilda Pinkerton–mystical maker of mysterious, magnificent, magical hats–is being hunted by the Keeper of Darkness.

Yet Tilda simply does not recall, at all, after taking a tremendous fall.

No one on Ooleeoo, where Tilda crash-landed, knows she is from another planet. Only Star Jumper Randy can tell her—but he’s light years away, frantically searching for his missing love, desperate that without her, the entire galaxy soon may be lost.

Even in the middle of cosmic danger, Tilda loves to create hats, for which she has a rare and uncanny knack. All who receive them sparkle, in fact—and spark their innermost talent. With a Tilda hat, people can suddenly do whatever they dream of, causing brilliant ideas to grow madly.

With Gladys the toad, who thinks she’s a cat, and Frank the fish, who lives in her hat, Tilda must discover who she is and what her enemy wants from her so badly.

But the Mayor of Moodle has other plans, including a ban on all wearing of hats, everywhere on Ooleeoo. His dark and forbidding actions seem to coincide with something unworldly, threatening all with a nameless dread and slowly blacking out the sky. With Ooleeoo itself turning upside down, how can anyone survive?

In this first in a series of Tilda Pinkerton adventures, Tilda must fight the battle of her life and risk all—even the galaxy and stars—by revealing her most electrifying secret.

My Thoughts:

This book was sent to me for a honest and fair review.  The cover picture is beautiful to say the least.  I love the vibrant colors that are in it.

The story begins with Tilda Pinkerton crash landing onto Ooleeoo where she resides for three years stranded.  Tilda creates hats for people and teaches the children at school.  The Mayor of Moodle is against everything to do with Tilda.  He bans school and the hats. Because he thinks the people are acting too foolishly about them.  He recruits those who are angry at residents who’ve gotten hats because they haven’t gotten any yet.  Little do they know little bugs in their ears are advising them badly.

Star Jumper Randy is trying to find a way to get in contact with Tilda to tell her what is happening.  But with her antenna bent from the crash to Ooleeoo she isn’t getting messages.  Randy finally gets an assignment to track strange black bugs and capture them and report back.  Finding out what is controlling them he proceeds against his boss to track down Tilda and find her.  He is surprised to find her alive and well even with a bent antenna.  Randy helps Tilda find her purpose and help the residents of Ooleeoo.

In this story I enjoyed the characters which there are many.  They all seem to have strong opinions to different degrees.  There is lots of adventure of creativity in this story, I loved how the author was able to weave the story together.  This book went very quickly and I didn’t find any slow areas. Can’t wait to see what happens in the next book and where Tilda is?  Definitely a book that can be read in a day!!

Character Do

You Most Identify With?

I love this question, by the way. It comes up in all kinds of interviews. And, think about it, you can identify with everyone from historical figures to movie characters, book characters – even your next door neighbor who lives with a hundred cats, if you want to.

I read recently that one writer – on his horrific days where he can’t seem to write a word – finds himself identifying most with the Captain of the Titanic as the iceberg approaches. I loved that answer, and boy does it fit. As a writer, when the scene is going extremely bad, that iceberg actually looks like a gift.

When it comes to The Angel Chronicles, I love Matthew the most, but I will always identify with Emily. She’s a bit more sarcastic, to say the least, and she’s a bit more tortured – loving her job, yet sometimes wishing that she didn’t have to do it. In fact, she even admits in Until Next Time that she doesn’t understand why they even bother to help souls in the first place, seeing as that there are so many bad ones who don’t deserve it. She has a great deal of questions, and also has a love that’s tearing her up inside because she can’t figure out what the right ‘move’ is. If she falls and falls hard, she may end up being hideous at her job because her mind will be on the ‘one’ and not on what she’s supposed to be doing. She also has the added struggle of Jason versus Matthew; a best friend versus a romance. Can there be two soul mates for one person? That’s the burning question.

Matthew knows his job, loves his job and has no qualms about what he does. But, with Gilded Wings, he begins to see Emily’s point of view. That’s why the cover – which was drawn so beautifully by Emma Michaels – shows Matthew in a more ‘lost’ sense. He’s waiting for the girl and partner he loves…but has no idea what he will have to give up in order to do the job he was sent to do.

The other character I really identify with is Leah Tallent. In a new series titled, Tallent & Lowery, Leah is a librarian who becomes stuck in a puzzle of mammoth proportions. She must use her intricate mind to solve mysteries that a man by the name of Gareth Lowery needs her help with. Independent, brutally sarcastic at times and hysterically funny, Leah hides a huge heart that begins to scare her a great deal. When writing Leah, I laugh. She has the lines that I love and that I remember on a daily basis. And she – like Matthew and Emily – has become very real to me.

So think about it. What character do you identify with? Are you into the macabre like Poe? Are you into the romantic soul of a Jane Austen star? Perhaps you feel close to the kids on Glee (which is a cool show, by the way), or perhaps you’re the Sherlock Holmes of your generation? I would love to know!

That’s where the power of books and movies come into play for someone like me. There are so many thrilling and unforgettable characters out there, that our world becomes way more fun when it’s filled with the Arts. An industry we should never take for granted!

Excerpt Post:

Gabriel watched in silence as his young angel rocked forward in her chair and fell through the warm clouds back to the drafty ship below. He felt the sadness in his own soul, wishing that Emily could remember her angelic life and all her gifts and friends when she was in Anya’s body. At least then his angel would never feel alone as she walked the path of her second turbulent time on earth.

Michael opened the door just as his beloved daughter disappeared from sight. “Is she all right?”

“She met the boy.”

“Good. He needs her,” Michael replied quietly.

“So do the others.” “She’ll do fine. She’s strong. Emily will make the right decisions.”

“I hope you’re right, my friend. But…gilded wings may be too heavy to bear,” Gabriel mumbled.

Music began to filter through the room as the hallway outside Gabriel’s classroom grew dark. The peaceful evening was upon them and they both silently prayed for the children they had once again sent out into the cold, harsh world.

Michael looked over. “Did she ask about anyone?”

Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

My Thoughts:

I was given this book in exchange for a honest and fair review.  I received no money to sway my opinion.

Allie and her friend Jess take to New Orleans for a job working for Allie’s father.  Allie is all set in her path in life to go to Princeton.  What she didn’t count on was meeting Levi who seems to fire something inside of her not even she could predict.  Jess starts out as a typical friend the opposite of Allie early on Jess ends up leaving and in so leaves Allie on her own like her father does.  She takes up with Levi knowing that there is something mysterious about him and doing her best to figure it out.

We also meet Levi’s friend Jared, Owen and Owen’s sister Hailey.  Hailey ends up being a great friend to Allie bonding with her.  Filing in the hole left by Jess, Hailey fills in Allie on the supernatural side of Levi.

I really enjoyed this story I can’t wait to see how it continues it’s definitely up there with some of the greatest YA authors like Lauren Kate, Becca Fitzpatrick and Cate Tiernan to mention a few.  I think everyone who loves YA, paranormal will love this story!

Series: Hourglass #1

One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.
Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

Full of atmosphere, mystery, and romance, Hourglass merges the very best of the paranormal and science-fiction genres in a seductive, remarkable young adult debut.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book the relationship between Emerson her brother Thomas and his wife I thought was great.  I also loved when she met Michael and things they could together.  I enjoyed meeting the friends of the Hourglass and how Emerson could help someone else in pain.  Definitely a great book that I found myself wanting to read Timepiece.  To see where the story leads to.  OMG my new favorite author to say the least Ms. McEntire’s story telling was amazing!
