The second of the House of Night Novellas brings us Lenobia, the strong, beautiful horseback riding instructor, who guides Zoey through some of her darkest hours, and has a dark secret buried in her own past…
In a small southern town at the turn of the century, young Lenobia is developing into a beautiful young woman with ideas of her own. But when she is Marked as a fledgling vampyre, her world turns upside down, and she is drawn to the musical streets of New Orleans. There, she learns of the city’s dark underbelly, ruled by powerful black magic. As Lenobia experiences her first love – and loss – and discovers a passion for horses to sustain her, she must come face-to-face with Darkness itself. And she may not escape without scars.
This was an awesome novella of Lenobia, the girl born from her mother and a baron which made her a bastard child. Her mother sends under the pretense of being the baron’s legitimate daughter who died and was supposed to marry a rich New Orlean’s man. When she is aboard the ship to go to New Orleans she meets Martin a stable hand and finds herself being drawn to him, and then to her dismay she is discovered as a liar by a Bishop who has his own plans for the young girl. Lenobia does everything to flee from the Bishop and her only salvation is being marked by a House of Night tracker. But the Bishop makes sure no one has her. Burning her lover Martin, Lenobia doesn’t escape without some scars and a vow to never love anyone else. I loved this story of the wonderful Horse Lover who overcame so much and didn’t let it burden her. She is also my favorite teacher at house of Night.
